Planning approval for former Wakefield Coroners Court
We're pleased to share that plans have been approved to transform Wakefield's historic former Coroner's Court into a new creative hub.
Working with client Rushbond as part of the wider Wakefield Fringe Masterplan, our design breathes new life into this Grade II listed Georgian building, carefully preserving its heritage character while reimagining it for the makers, artists and entrepreneurs of today.
71 Northgate will offer affordable studios, workshops and collaboration spaces, sitting at the heart of Wakefield's growing arts and education quarter alongside neighbours including CAPA College, Wakefield College and The Art House.
Acting as 'little sister' to the nearby Crown Court redevelopment (also designed by Group Ginger), the two buildings together form a cornerstone of Wakefield's Civic Quarter, restoring historic buildings and returning them to everyday community use.
We believe the best architecture doesn't just preserve the past — it activates it for the future. This project is a meaningful example of exactly that.
