Streets in the Sky at Halifax Borough Market

Group Ginger are working in collaboration with WSP and Cushman & Wakefield to develop a feasibility study for the re-inhabitation of the ‘Streets in the Sky’ at Halifax Borough Market, on behalf of Calderdale Borough Council.

The study sees the two ‘streets’ of existing terrace housing above the Grade II* listed market hall brought back to life as commercially viable residential lets, but not without some challenges!

Practical design interventions include improvements to accessibility, fire separation, security, and usability, whilst preserving heritage character. This is considered in parallel with opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of the existing fabric, providing healthy, comfortable homes for future tenants.
